yes I understand the number you would use for valuation purposes, I guess what I meant was when spreading the historicals should I simply use the weighted average number they used to calculate EPS so that my spreaded figures tie in with historical EPS?

Yes, you must match historicals, this is especially important when you normalize. this is covered extensively in our Complex Trading Comps course.
